Our AI Principles
Our use of artificial intelligence is founded on six key principles:
Human-Centred Learning
AI enhances teaching and learning while preserving the essential role of teachers as mentors, facilitators, and educational leaders. Technology supports learning—it does not replace the human relationships that are fundamental to education.
Academic Integrity
Students are expected to use AI responsibly, ethically, and transparently. Original thinking, proper attribution, intellectual honesty, and respect for intellectual property remain central to all academic work.
Critical Thinking
Students are encouraged to question, evaluate, and verify AI-generated information rather than accepting it at face value. We believe AI should strengthen independent thinking—not replace it.
Equity and Inclusion
We strive to ensure equitable access to AI-supported learning opportunities while recognising the diverse needs, backgrounds, and learning profiles of our students.
Privacy and Security
Protecting personal data is a fundamental responsibility. AI technologies used within our school are selected and implemented with careful consideration of privacy, security, and international data protection standards.
Lifelong Learning
Artificial intelligence continues to evolve rapidly. We encourage our students, educators, and families to develop the confidence and adaptability needed to learn alongside new technologies throughout their lives.
Our AI Policy
MEF International School’s AI Policy provides a comprehensive framework for the ethical, responsible, and educational use of artificial intelligence across our school community.
The policy reflects our commitment to ensuring that AI is used to enrich learning while safeguarding academic integrity, student wellbeing, human agency, and data privacy.
Our policy focuses on:
- responsible and ethical AI use across the school community;
- AI literacy for students at every age and stage of learning;
- professional learning for teachers and staff;
- responsible classroom integration that supports—not replaces—high-quality teaching;
- transparency in the use of AI-generated content;
- protection of student data and privacy;
- equitable access to AI-supported learning opportunities;
- ongoing review of AI tools to ensure educational value, safety, accessibility, and security;
- collaboration with universities, educational organisations, and technology partners to remain at the forefront of educational innovation.
Students are taught to understand both the opportunities and the limitations of artificial intelligence. They learn how AI systems work, recognise potential bias, evaluate information critically, and make ethical decisions when using AI in their learning.
Teachers use AI thoughtfully to support curriculum planning, differentiated instruction, assessment, and timely feedback, while maintaining professional judgment and ensuring that educational decisions always remain human-centred.
Parents are valued partners in this journey. Through information sessions, workshops, and ongoing communication, we support families in helping students develop healthy, responsible, and balanced approaches to AI use both at school and at home.
Our AI governance is overseen by the MEF AI and Educational Technologies Committee, a multidisciplinary team of educational leaders and specialists responsible for reviewing emerging technologies, monitoring implementation, supporting professional learning, and ensuring continuous alignment with international best practices.
As AI continues to evolve, so will our approach. Our policy is reviewed regularly to reflect technological developments, educational research, and the changing needs of our learners and community.
