University & Career Guidance
MEFIS College Counseling Program: Grades 9â12
The MEFIS College Counseling Program provides a progressive, personalized pathway that guides students from early self-discovery and exploration through university application and transition. Beginning in Grade 9, students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make thoughtful decisions about their academic and future pathways.
The College Counseling Department maintains regular communication with families and provides multiple parent education sessions each year. The department also coordinates nearly 100 university visits each year, giving students opportunities to engage directly with representatives from a diverse range of universities around the world. Career Day, alumni events, and other enrichment opportunities further broaden studentsâ perspectives, helping them explore future pathways, build meaningful connections, and learn from the experiences of professionals and MEFIS graduates.
Grade 9: Foundation & Awareness
Students begin to identify their strengths, interests, values, and aspirations while developing strong academic habits, and meaningful involvement beyond the classroom. With guidance from their college counselor, students create an initial four-year academic and personal development roadmap.
Grade 10: Exploration & Early Planning
Students deepen their understanding of potential academic and career pathways through interest assessments, career research, and individual counseling. They receive guidance in selecting their IB subjects, explore global university systems, and begin identifying extracurricular activities, internships, summer programs, and other opportunities that align with their emerging interests and goals.
Grade 11: Research & Preparation
Students develop a deeper understanding of university admissions through workshops, university research, and individual counseling. They begin building a balanced and purposeful university list, develop their CVs and application profiles, and prepare for the application process. A three-way conference with the student, family, and college counselor provides an opportunity to review progress, discuss goals, and establish a clear application plan.
Grade 12: Application & Transition
Students receive individualized guidance throughout the university application process, including university selection, essays and personal statements, application platforms, interviews, and required school documentation. As students prepare to take their next step, the program also addresses the transition to university life, including independence, well-being, budgeting, relationships, and cultural adjustment. The goal is not only to help students gain admission to universities that are a strong fit, but also to prepare them to thrive once they arrive.
7. Community Learning & Partnerships
We believe that student success is strengthened through meaningful partnerships between school, home, and the wider community. Our aim is to promote collaboration, shared learning, and collective responsibility for student wellbeing, safety, and development.
Through parent education, professional learning opportunities, family engagement initiatives, and community-wide awareness programs, we aim to build a connected, informed, and supportive school community where students can thrive.

Setting Goals, Organization, Academic Skills, and Reflection (SOAR) is designed to support students in developing their organizational, executive functioning, and independent study skills. The program is delivered in Middle School from Grade 6 to Grade 8, with one lesson per week. The main aim is to explicitly teach, practice, and strengthen skills such as planning, time management, organization, prioritizing, goal setting, task initiation, self-monitoring, and effective study strategies. Students are given opportunities to apply these skills to their everyday academic responsibilities, helping them become more independent and confident learners.
An important aspect of SOAR is preparing students for the transition to High School, where expectations for independence, workload management, and self-directed learning increase. However, the skills developed through the programme are not only intended for the transition to High School. They are lifelong skills that can support students in managing their responsibilities, solving problems, making decisions, and becoming increasingly independent both academically and personally.
