In real life communication is versatile and implies deeper knowledge of cultural and intercultural facts as well as different codes that can help us to convey the meaning we want to transmit and avoid misunderstandings. Our students have been developing skills of communication through pen pal exchanges with a Spanish class at a local Turkish school, by seeking similarities in communication structure between Spanish and French, as well as learning about alternative communication methods that are also used in Spanish culture.

Geography Classes
Year 11 students gave presentations on the renewable energy sources they had researched.

Ceramic Art Workshop
As a part of the Host Country Studies course, our Year 5 and 6 students went on a Turkish adventure to an Art studio where they experimented with traditional Turkish art (Çini). Students had a chance to learn about the traditional Turkish “çini ” art and they enjoyed designing the ceramic tile.

World Scholars Cup
On 21 and 22nd of December MEF Izmir participated in the World Scholars Cup for the first time.
Overall the team performed well achieving 4th place in the knowledge bowl and the highest total score in the individual challenge. The team achieved silver awards and qualified to compete in the global round.
The team members also received toy Alpacas (the mascot of the WSC)
In the individual knowledge section:
Erin achieved a gold award in three topics: History, Science and Special topic.
Ryan achieved silver awards in Art and Literature, Gold awards and the highest overall score in four topics: History, Science, Social studies and special topic. He also received the Asimov award for the best individual scholar in the senior division.
