Our ECC staff and parents did a great job helping our students celebrate the Lunar New Year. Students from the ECC and grade 1 learnt how to take a deep bow, they made Kimbab, played traditional Korean games, used Chinese letters to write the word ‘Lucky’ and tried on traditional clothes. Thank you for all involved.

Our Reading Week this week has been a great success thanks to Ms Heather, our Reading Week committee, some of our secondary students and of course our parents. Your support has been much appreciated. Here is Mr Darren on Pyjama Day using a torch to read to his grade 4 class, and Ms Sharlene who was a secret reading for our grade 5s.

This week our students have been inspiring each other and being very creative by decorating their classroom doors for Reading Week. Well done to all our creative students and staff for brightening up our hallways.

Thank you so much for the volunteers that helped to support our Reading Across Languages event this week, and to Mr Simon for coordinating this event.

The puppets were made, the background was painted, and the webs were spun. Our little puppeteers (kindergarteners) performed 'The Very Busy Spider' this week and they did a fantastic job. Thank you to Ms Donna for organising this.

Some of our Grade 7 students joined the Grade 2 classes this week to be buddy readers. The books used were donated by Happy Nest. Thank you to Ms Lale for this exciting collaboration, and to Happy Nest for their generous donation. |

Here are some of our kindergarten students. After reading their book they were busy practising their sight words by colouring in the words in the correct colour. Thank you to Ms Janeen for planning this activity. |

Our semester 2 Primary In-School Clubs are now in full swing. This is Japanese art combining their club activity with Reading Week by producing and reading a book of essential Japanese phrases. Thank you to Ms Demet and Mr Darren for planning this activity. |

This week our students created a land art heart which we plan to send to the Australian Embassy to share our love and support for the devastating fires that have hit Australia in recent months. |

The middle school basketball teams were in action at the MEFIS inter-school competition last week. Our boys' team finished 1st in their league and the girls' team finished 3rd. We wish our middle school teams well as they head to Ankara this weekend to compete in another tournament. |

Teachers learned how to use the Green Screen in the Makers Lab to make aesthetically pleasing iMovies. |
 |
MEF IS Robotics Club students started the preparations of Robot design to participate in the First Robotics Competition on ‘Renewable Sources of Energy’. |
 |
Teachers created Zentagle art in our monthly wellness session. This relaxing art form involves drawing unplanned structured patterns called tangles. |
 |
It is never too late to start practicing good study habits! Students should plan ahead and keep track of upcoming assignments and assessments with a homework diary. Planning allows students to think about the learning goals in each class, consider how they will approach each task, and select which study strategies they will use. |

Ms. Defne, with Boğaziçi University Dog Sanctuary, also known as BU PAWS, visited with MEF IS IB students to showcase the various ways they could gain valuable CAS experience while assisting a worthwhile cause and enjoying quality time with the dogs in their uniquely beautiful setting. |

Secondary Student Council brought the Lunar, Chinese, and Korean New Year celebrations to light last week by decorating the canteen and having tangerines to share. |

English students in IB1 have been improving their discussion and analytical skills by participating in Harkness Method meetings. |

Grade 8 students enjoyed constructing geometrical figures during the mathematics class. |
