Students build on the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in the PYP as they participate in a balanced selection of courses in grades 6-8. This allows them to develop their potential, to explore their own learning preferences, to take appropriate risks, and to reflect on and develop a strong sense of personal identity. Our teachers strive to create authentic learning opportunities to help our students develop their communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Ultimately students are able to succeed academically and make in impact in local, national, and global communities.<\/p><p><strong>Middle school students take the following courses:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>English or English as a Second Language<\/li><li>Language B (French, Spanish, or English Language Support)<\/li><li>Humanities<\/li><li>Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)<\/li><li>Mathematics<\/li><li>Arts (Art and Music)<\/li><li>Information Technology (IT)<\/li><li>Physical Education<\/li><li>Host Country Studies<\/li><li>Personal and Social Health Education<\/li><li>Clubs<\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Middle school English\/English as a Second Language, Science, and Math courses follow the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeinternational.org\/programmes-and-qualifications\/cambridge-lower-secondary\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cambridge Lower Secondary Curriculum<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is designed to engage learners in an active and creative learning journey. At the end of grade 8, students take<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeinternational.org\/Images\/687497-cambridge-progression-tests-and-checkpoint-performance-band-faqs.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">exams in these 3 subject areas. These assessments provide an international benchmark of student achievement, helping us to identify learners\u2019 strengths and weaknesses and give advice on progression routes in high
